Online Teaching and Assignments

** Please note: This is the work for the entire week - Split it up so that you're doing a few hours per day- the recommendation for Grade 5 is roughly 2 hours a day, with focus on Math and ELA.

**Note about submitting work: Please only submit the work that I ask you email me. For the work that needs to be submitted this week ( ELA journal, Math name graphing) please submit both assignments in 1 email on Friday. Thank you!

 

**All belongings and supplies must be picked up at the school before Friday, May 1st (Mon-Fri, 9-1). See homepage for details.

- Remember to "refresh" the website page each day/time you visit to account for any changes or updates made.

ELA

  • Spelling- complete Week 23 spelling booklet. Try to spend about 15-30 minutes a day working through your booklet or reviewing your words (once your booklet is completed). Get someone at home to do an at home quiz on Thursday or Friday.

  • Novel Study - Read chapters 8 and 9 of "Touching Spirit Bear". (about 30 min reading everyday)

    • Answer the chapter questions for the two chapters.​

    • Note: Chapter 8 question #5: asks to look back at page 50 -You will find this in Chapter 6 on page 32 on your pdf version.

  • Journal Writing - Free write- for this week's writing piece, you may choose your topic that you want to write about. Write a 1 to 2 page journal, news report, short story, etc. Be sure to read your work over a few times and to check your grammar, punctuation and spelling before submitting.

    • You might want to write about your weekend, something interesting about yourself, something you're looking forward to, how you've been doing during isolation, it's up to you, get creative as you'd like! : )​

    • You will hand this in by email on Friday.​

  • Grammar - Paragraph missing word vocab *(This is optional- if you finish the other work early)*

    • Complete the two worksheets. First, read over the vocabulary words. If there are any words that you do not know the meaning of, be sure to check the computer or dictionary. Once you understand the meaning of all the words, you must fill in the blanks to complete the paragraphs with the correct words. *Do not check the answers until you are finished the whole page. ​

Math

  • Weekly Math - Complete the weekly math page - Do one column each day (Mon-Thurs).

    • The answers are included only for you to check your work when you are finished and to help you if you get stuck​. Remember to always show your work and to complete all steps for each problem.

  • Area and Perimeter - Complete the area and perimeter practice sheets. Check your answers when you are finished to see how you did. Re-watch some of the videos from last week if you need a refresher, and email/website chat me with any questions you have along the way! (Try to do one worksheet a day + Weekly Math)

  • Area and Perimeter Name Graph - Choose either the horizontal or vertical graph paper template. Colour your name in box letters by filling in the squares on the graph paper. Use only full squares  (no halves or parts of a square). Once you're done colouring your name calculate the area and perimeter of your name. Do this by counting the lines for your perimeter, and count the squares coloured in for the area. Fill in your answers at the bottom in the space provided.

    • You will hand this in by email on Friday. ​

  • Earth Day Report Card - Complete one of the following "report cards" for either your school, classroom or home. Complete the checklist and the written part.
