  • Drawing the area of a rectangle- If you are given the area of a rectangle, can you draw the rectangle?

    • Example draw a rectangle with an area of 25 cm². â€‹

    • We know that A= L x W .     ( Area = Length x Width)

    • So then we could say that      25 = L x W    We can now find two numbers to fill in for our length and width that when we multiply together will equal to 25.  Lets have a look.

    • 5 x 5 = 25. AND 1 x 25 = 25. So we could have 2 different rectangles we could draw. We could have our first one with the length of 5 cm and the width of 5 cm.  ( A =L x W) (5 x 5 = 25)  OR we could use a length of 25 cm and width of 1 cm.  ( 25 x 1 = 25)

                                 5 cm                               5 x 5 = 25 cm²                                1  cm                                                                                  25 x 1 = 25 cm²

                                                                                                                                                                                   25 cm

                                                 5 cm

  • Example 2: Try this. Draw a rectangle with the area of 32 cm². First, think of different ways that we can multiply two numbers to get 32. Remember A = L x W. So you just need to find any 2 numbers that will work.

    • You could do 16 x 2 = 32

    • You could do 4 x 8 = 32

    • Draw the different examples and see how you can find the same area using different lengths and widths.

    • Try this worksheet once you're done!

    • * This will be due by email on Friday, May 1st.
