ELA

  • Spelling - Congratulations, you've completed your full 30 week Spelling book!

    • View the 2 page "Master Word List" for your Spelling group.

    • Review the words, and choose 20 words so make your own spelling list for the week. You might want to choose words that you still have some difficulty with or have spelt incorrectly on past tests.

    • Write the 20 words on the blank sheet and practice them for the week. You can do some of the activities from previous booklets using the words.

    • There is a blank crossword provided - Write your 20 words scattered in the boxes vertically and horizontally (remember to use only one letter in each box). Once you've got all of your words on the page, make your clues.

    • At the bottom of the page there are two boxes labelled "across" and "down". This is where you will make up clues for your spelling words. Your clues can be the definition of the word, or just a clue about it that you know.

    • Have a look at your previous booklets to see an example of how it's done.

  • Novel Study - Read chapter 28 of "Touching Spirit Bear".

    • Answer the chapter questions in full sentences.

    • Write a 1-page paper about the Novel.

        • A summary of the book (discuss the important events from beginning, middle, to end).

        • Talk about the main characters (how did they grow or change as you read the novel).

        • Discuss your favorite part in the book- tell what happened, and why you enjoyed that part.

        • Lastly, tell me your opinion of the book- was this enjoyable to read? Why or why not.

        • Remember to read your paper over BEFORE you hand this in. Check your spelling, grammar, sentence structure, etc.

    • This paper will be due by email on Friday, June 19th.

      • You do not need to complete all of these this week- There's lots.
    • Use this time to review some of your notes from the beginning of the year if you get stuck. Perhaps you might want to focus your attention on areas that you struggled with this year.
