Online Teaching and Assignments

Tuesday, May 19th - Friday May 22nd

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! 

See below for this week's work. 

 

** Please note: This is the work for the entire week - Split it up so that you're doing a few hours per day- the recommendation for Grade 5 is roughly 2 hours a day, with focus on Math and ELA.

- Remember to "refresh" the website page each day/time you visit to account for any changes or updates made.

  • Wednesday 10am - Math

  • Friday 10am - Science (to go over the "study guide" from the notes) so it would be good if you've started or at least had a look before the meeting.

Assignments to be submitted by email this week-Please submit in 1 email (unless you can't or have already handed in some assignments in to me)

- Social Studies Fur Trading Assignment Due Tuesday, May 19th.

- Religion Chapter 8 Test Due Friday, May 22nd.

- Touching Spirit Bear Chapter 18 & 19 Questions Due Friday, May 22nd. 

- Science Simple Machines Quiz Due Friday, May 22ndd or Monday (if more time is needed)

A message from Mrs. Lampman.

MUSIC MONTH RECITAL opportunity: This month, if you would like to perform for the school on an instrument of choice, please send your video to Mr. Cooper (gcooper@holycrossschool.mb.ca) or Mrs. Lampman (hlampman@holycrossschool.mb.ca) by May 20th, along with a note from a parent giving permission for the video to be shared on-line. We may not be able to ensure it is only seen by people in the school community. Videos should showcase something that took time and practice to learn.  We hope to create a video recital to share with the school by the end of May.

ELA

  • Spelling- complete Week 27 spelling booklet. Try to spend about 15-30 minutes a day working through your booklet or reviewing your words (once your booklet is completed). Get someone at home to do an at home quiz on Thursday or Friday.

  • Novel Study - Read chapters 18 - 19 of "Touching Spirit Bear". (about 30 min reading everyday)

    • Answer the chapter questions in full sentences.

    • These chapter questions will be due by Friday, May 22ndd.

Math

  • Volume & Surface Area Practice

    • Complete the practice worksheets on volume and surface area. Watch the video from last week on how to find surface area.​

  • ​Lines - Intersecting, parallel and perpendicular 

    • Watch the video on the these 3 different ways we can describe lines. â€‹

    • Complete the worksheet on naming the lines

  • Edges, Faces and Vertices of 2D & 3D shapes

    • Watch the video on edges, faces and vertices. â€‹

    • Complete the worksheet on describing shapes

      • Identify the lines you see for each shape as well (parallel, perpendicular and intersecting).

      • Ex. A cube has parallel lines (top & bottom, Side & side, front & back). It also has perpendicular lines at the verticies or points. 

      • You can outline these lines with a pencil on the page, and write them on the page somewhere or on a seperate piece of paper.

Religion (assigned last week)

  • Read Chapter 8 from the textbook. See PDF.

    • Complete the reflection questions that you come across in the reading on a piece of loose leaf, or discuss them with someone at home.​

    • Once you've finished reading the chapter (8 pages total) complete the chapter test provided.

      • You can print off the page or do it on a piece of paper. ​

    • The chapter test must be submitted by email by next Friday, May 22nd.

Science

  • Simple Machines Unit

    • Watch the introduction video on Simple Machines â€‹

    • Read the vocabulary terms and the "simple and compound machines" notes. It might be a good idea to highlight the terms and important words as you go along. Once you've finished the reading, complete the "study guide" at the end. This is good practice for you to get to know the terms better. 

    • Once you've completed reading the notes and watching the video, do the short review "quiz".

      • This needs to be submitted by email by Friday, May 22nd OR Monday May 25th (if you need more time).
