Online Teaching and Assignments

Monday, May 4th - Friday, May 8th

Please see below for this week's work. Have an awesome week, and keep up the excellent work! : )

** Please note: This is the work for the entire week - Split it up so that you're doing a few hours per day- the recommendation for Grade 5 is roughly 2 hours a day, with focus on Math and ELA.

- Remember to "refresh" the website page each day/time you visit to account for any changes or updates made.

* There will be a Microsoft Teams Meeting Math lesson on Wednesday at 10:00 am.

- The lesson should be roughly 30 minutes and we will go over Area and Perimeter.

- I will send out the new information for everyone to make their accounts on Monday. Let me know if you have any issues.

**Don't forget it's Mother's Day this Sunday, May 10th!**

Be sure to give your moms some extra lovin' this weekend!  And, if you can, maybe do something extra special for her.

Need some ideas?

- Make her a card or handmade gift/craft

- Write her a poem or letter telling her how much she means to you

- Make her a yummy breakfast

- Clean the house

- Help take care of younger siblings (if you have any)

- Plan a special day with some of her favourite things to do (some might have to be done after quarantine, but you can get creative at home too!)

- Have a look at some of the templates and videos below! Use what you have at home.

  • Novel Study - Read chapters 13 & 14 of "Touching Spirit Bear". (about 30 min reading everyday)

    • Once you've finished reading Chapter 13, read the handout provided and complete the "persuasive writing" on the next page. â€‹

      • Remember, persuasive writing, is when you want to convince your reader to believe your point of view. So, you want to write in a way that will convince your reader to see Cole's banishment in the same way you do. Use evidence and examples from the book to prove what you are saying and how you think his banishment was good or bad. If you don't provide examples and reasoning for your reader to be convinced, then why would they want to believe what you're saying? Give it your best shot!

      • * This writing piece will be due by email on Friday, May 8th.

      • Answer the chapter questions for chapters 13 & 14.

  • Area and Perimeter Practice - First watch the two videos on how to calculate the area and perimeter of irregular shapes.

    •  Complete the area and perimeter practice sheets. Check your answers when you are finished to see how you did.  (Try to do one worksheet a day + Weekly Math)
